The George Washington University Hospital Receives Highest Stroke Award from American Heart Association
The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) has received the highest stroke awards from the American Heart Association® (AHA). Additionally, GW Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2024. Only 5% of all US hospitals receive this award.
The GW Hospital Stroke Program has received outstanding designations from the American Heart Association for 2024: Get With the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus, Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
- Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus is the highest award for AHA Get With the Guidelines stroke quality measures. The plus indicates that GW Hospital has achieved this status for greater than two consecutive years.
- Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll represents the highest level of AHA recognition for thrombolytic administration timing. This recognition is based on the GW Hospital Stroke Program's performance in achieving door-to-needle times within 45 minutes for at least 75% of applicable patients, and within 30 minutes for at least 50% of applicable patients, throughout the period from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023.
- Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll indicates that GW Hospital has achieved the above quality measures with stroke patients who have Type 2 Diabetes, demonstrating best practice utilization.
To receive the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, GW Hospital has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for three consecutive years (2021, 2022 and 2023) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures. Only 5% of all US hospitals receive this award. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients. The award recognizes GW Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that GW Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
