GW Hospital Unveils New Unit Expansion for Neuroscience and Trauma Patients
To enhance GW Hospital’s ability to serve the growing needs of the community, a brand new patient area for trauma and neurosciences services has been constructed on the sixth floor of the hospital. The newly completed 32,000 square foot patient unit was an approximately $13.1 million project that includes 42 all-private rooms with new equipment and furniture, as well as space to add intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) equipment in 2020.
Modern finishes and a streamlined design will support high-level care in a restful, healing environment and bring much needed capacity to the hospital. The addition brings GW Hospital’s current licensed bed count to 395 with 32 observational beds to better serve our community. The renovation began last summer and is part of an ongoing patient care expansion initiative that will include the opening of the helipad this summer. The hospital plans to begin caring for patients in the new space in the coming weeks.
