Vincent Obias, MD, is Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Department of Surgery, at The George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Obias is also Chair of the Robotics Committee at GW Hospital and an associate professor of surgery. Dr. Obias is board-certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Obias graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's degree in science. He earned a master's degree in physiology from the Medical College of Virginia, where he also earned his doctorate of medicine. Dr. Obias completed a general surgery residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, as well as a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center-Advanced Laparoscopy Colon and Rectal.
Dr. Obias has presented at more than 250 regional, national and international meetings, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He has also co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, including Diseases of the Colon and Rectum and the Journal of Surgical Research. Furthermore, he has taught or led 29 minimally invasive courses in colorectal robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. In 2009, Dr. Obias performed the first robotic colectomy in Washington, DC using the da Vinci robot.
Dr. Obias' clinical interests are colon cancer, rectal cancer, rectal prolapse, natural orifice surgery, minimally invasive and robotic colon and rectal, transanal minimally invasive surgery, hemorrhoids, polyp disease, familial polyposis syndrome, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and anal fistula and fissure.
