GW Seating and Mobility Clinic
Therapists skilled in seating and mobility technology will evaluate clients to determine the most appropriate equipment to achieve the goals of functional independence, comfort, positioning and pressure distribution. The seating and mobility clinic at the GW Outpatient Rehabilitation Center offers clients with disabilities multiple seating and mobility services, including:
Seating and Positioning and Wheelchair Evaluation
This includes a thorough assessment of medical history, strength, flexibility, skin integrity, posture, mobility needs and current wheelchair and seating system.
Computerized Pressure Mapping
For clients with a history of skin breakdown or who are at a high risk for skin breakdown, a computerized pressure mapping can be completed to provide objective measurements of the areas of highest pressure and helping to determine which seating system is most effective to reduce and distribute seating pressures.
Equipment Trials
This includes the ability to trial advanced equipment, including manual and power wheelchairs, power-assist devices for manual wheelchairs, cushions, backs and positioning devices.
Final Fitting and Delivery of Recommended Equipment
Clients can return to the seating clinic once the recommended equipment has been obtained for adjustments and training.
